Healthy Sweet Chilli Sauce Recipe

This last stretch of warm weather allowed for another crop of Chilli’s! Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head! Well, not quite as big as your head but you catch my drift. So in order to capture the warmth of summer for the cold winter ahead we thought to share our favorite sweet chilli recipe with you.

Chilli Basket

This recipe is extremely healthy and is sure to burn away any sickness or germs that winter might throw your way.

We prefer to use cayenne peppers as it’s health promoting properties are legendary but you can use any old chilli you’d like.

Chopped Chillies

Sweet Chilli Recipe

500g of Deseeded Chillis

3 Cups of Apple Cider Vinegar

3 Garlic Cloves

1 1/2 Cups of Honey

50-100g Fresh Ginger

50-100g Fresh Turmeric

1 tsp Paprika

1 tsp Pink Himalayan or Sea Salt

2 tbsp Black Cumin Seeds

1 tsp Ground Coriander Seeds

Deseed all the chillies (leave some seeds in for extra hotness if desired). Be warned that this can be quite a painful activity if you don’t wear gloves!

Process the ginger, turmeric and garlic till minced and add about quarter of the chillis. Add a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar while blending again.

Add this mix to a big pot along with another cup of Apple Cider Vinegar and the honey. Continue to blend the rest of the chillies with the last cup of Apple Cider Vinegar while simmering the pot on low heat.

Add the final batch of chillies, salt, black cumin seeds, ground coriander seeds and paprika to the pot then turn up the heat!

Sweet Chilli Ingredient Mix

Let it boil for a few minutes while stirring. Be prepared to have your sinuses cleared by the steam coming out of the pot! Turn down the heat then simmer for 35-40 mins until the sauce thickens.

Scoop the sauce into sterilized jars and screw the tops on while it is still hot.

And that’s all there is to it.

Sweet Chilli Jars

This sauce goes really well with salad and makes for an amazing addition to chicken wraps, so good in fact that every Wednesday has now become Wednesday Sweet Chilli Wraps night at Ingadi.

  1. If we’re ever up that way and you feel inclined to give us an invite, looks like I’ll have to try and wrangle it for a Wednesday night 😉 (though tofu is more our thing :-)… Love the accompanying photos…Chris
